The Richard Mille team is gearing up for the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Richard Mille team will compete in this unprecedented sporting event – the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team is entirely composed of female drivers, including three regular drivers and one SimRacer pro esports driver.
Signatech will provide technical support for this extraordinary event.
This major event is a joint initiative of the Automobile Club of the West (ACO), the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), and Motorsport Games. The competition will take place from June 13th to 14th, 2020, the original dates for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This competition employs an unprecedented format, mixing SimRacer professional esports drivers with renowned drivers from Formula One (F1), the World Endurance Championship (WEC), and Formula E (FIA) into 50 teams for a head-to-head competition. For those unfamiliar with the event, SimRacer professional esports drivers are professional virtual racers who control LMP2 and LMGTE cars on the rFactor 2 simulation software platform.
According to WEC CEO Gérard Neveu, this event presents a fantastic opportunity to expand the 24 Hours of Le Mans using a virtual online racing platform: "We hope to offer fans who have lost their passion a brand-new event that perfectly blends motorsport and online racing." The RICHARD MILLE team is entirely composed of female drivers: the three regular drivers are Katherine Legge, Tatiana Calderon, and Sophia Floersch, along with Emily Jones from Australia, who has been hailed as the world's best SimRacer professional esports driver. They will compete together in the LMP2 class. During the race, they will take turns driving the virtual LMP2 Oreca prototype race car, which is painted the same vibrant red as the physical car, creating a magnificent spectacle.
Philippe Sinault's Signatech team will provide technical support to the team during the event and assist drivers in their preparation: "We have tailored simulator training programs for them, and each driver has a track engineer and strategic manager to help them achieve their best results." This virtual race will be an important trial run for the RICHARD MILLE team and Signatech in their joint preparations for the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), and will start on July 9 at the Paul Ricard Circuit in France, closed to the public. This team will be one of the few to field all its regular drivers.
